Videographer and social media personality Kenneth Makina, popularly known as VJ Ken, will appear in court today on charges of child abduction and engaging in sexual activities with a minor.
Makina, 30, is also facing a separate charge of embezzling K16.7 million, according to court records.
His court appearance follows a ruling by Senior Resident Magistrate Mercy Bonongwe, who denied him bail earlier this week. The magistrate said bail would only be considered after two key state witnesses have testified, citing concerns that releasing him could interfere with the administration of justice.
The court noted that Makina resides in the same community as the child witnesses, raising the risk of possible influence or intimidation if he were released.
