Police in Balaka on Thursday arrested fourteen people for gambling offences during a sweep conducted in Mpulula, Mponda, and Balaka Town.

According to District Police Spokesperson Inspector Gladson M’bumpha, the operation also led to the arrest of four individuals who failed to account for 300 crates of empty bottles valued at K6 million.

M’bumpha said police additionally apprehended one person for possessing counterfeit cement, another for possessing petroleum products without a permit, and a third for escaping from lawful custody.

The suspects, aged 18 to 49, have been charged and are expected to appear in court soon.
