The Mkukula First Grade Magistrate Court in Lumbadzi, Dowa, has sentenced 20-year-old Matthews Mabvuto to five years imprisonment for robbery.

State prosecutor Sergeant Ruth Kalimona told the court that on the night of November 10, 2025, Mabvuto and an accomplice attacked a motorcyclist at Lumbadzi Trading Centre and stole a Lifan motorcycle. Officers on patrol later apprehended Mabvuto and recovered the stolen bike, while his accomplice fled.

In court, Mabvuto pleaded guilty and asked for leniency, saying he is the family breadwinner. However, First Grade Magistrate Kondwani Chinangwa agreed with the prosecution that a harsher sentence was necessary, noting that motorcycle robberies have become increasingly common in the area and pose a serious threat to public safety.
