A former Rangers and Hearts star has been appointed to his first job in football management.

David Templeton has landed the top gig at Glasgow United, where he will combine his duties as a player.

The 36-year-old takes charge of the ninth-tier club following the departure of Tony McNally.

Templeton takes over United - who also have former Celtic and Hibs defender Efe Ambrose on their books - just a week after Nacho Novo became manager of Darvel.

A club statement, posted on social media, reads: “Glasgow Utd FC are today pleased to announce our new management team.

“Taking the reins will be David Templeton as player-manager, Kevin Nicol as assistant player-coach and Iain Orr as goalkeeper coach.
