A grizzly bear attack occurred Thursday in Bella Coola, a remote community on the Central Coast of British Columbia, Canada. Local and regional officials reported that several individuals may have sustained injuries from the incident.

The British Columbia Conservation Officer Service responded to the scene alongside the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. They are currently investigating the situation.

Acwsalcta School, an independent institution operated by the Nuxalk Nation, announced it will be closed on Friday due to the bear attack. The school expressed its concern, stating, "it's hard to know what to say during this very difficult time." It remains unclear if any students were among those injured.

The Nuxalk Nation has warned residents about an "aggressive bear" in the Four Mile subdivision, a forested area where the school is situated. Officials have advised the community to stay indoors and refrain from searching for the bear or venturing down any trails.

As of now, the bear has not been located. The region is home to an estimated 15,000 grizzly bears, which represents more than half of Canada's total grizzly population, according to a 2012 assessment by the Committee on the Status of Endangered Wildlife in Canada.

Authorities continue to monitor the situation and are working to ensure the safety of the community.
