Two significant house fires have broken out in Ashby-de-la-Zouch, sending thick plumes of black smoke into the sky, visible from miles away. Emergency services are currently responding to the incidents, which have led to road closures in the Smisby Road area. Authorities are urging drivers to avoid the vicinity.
Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that multiple crews are on the scene tackling the two separate blazes. A spokesperson stated, "Smisby Road (the B6006) through the town has been closed to traffic and motorists should avoid the area and expect delays. These are ongoing incidents."
Local residents have reported additional closures, with one witness noting on social media, "Hope everyone is ok, there's also something on Preston Drive," and added, "roads closed and fire engine etc there hope all is ok there as well."
As of now, both Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service and Leicestershire Police are actively managing the situation. The public is advised to stay clear of the area as emergency services continue their work to control the fires.
