Camryn Rogers, Canada’s world and Olympic champion in women’s hammer throw , was initially thrilled when World Athletics announced plans for the Ultimate Championship to attract fans and hand out the sport’s largest cash prizes: $150,000 (U.S.) for winners.

The made-for-TV event won’t include women’s hammer. Canadian Ethan Katzberg — the world and Olympic champion in men’s hammer — is welcome to vie for sporting glory and life-changing money; Rogers is not.
“I love my sport, I will fight for my sport until the day I die, but sometimes things like this make it really hard,” said Rogers, who recently moved to Austin, Texas to continue training with long-time coach Mohamad Saatara.
