President Donald Trump is not backing down from the idea of sending $2,000 “dividends” from tariff revenues to Americans.
While speaking to reporters on Nov. 17 in the Oval Office, the president said "individuals of moderate income" could expect dividends "probably in the middle of next year."
Trump elevated the idea of sending out the payments on Nov. 9 in a post on his Truth Social platform , defending the way he has ratcheted up the fees paid on imports in the process.
“People that are against Tariffs are FOOLS!” Trump wrote. “A dividend of at least $2000 a person (not including high income people!) will be paid to everyone.”
Since then, multiple experts have questioned if the program is feasible, with even White House officials acknowledging Congress likely has to be on board
