MIDDLETOWN, Ohio —

Middletown is removing a plan to add a 25 percent usage adjustments to residents' next bills, amid a cybersecurity incident that has impacted the city.

Those bills have been on hold as the city worked to secure its computer and phone systems. As they resume, Middletown officials said that "estimated bills will be based on usage from the same month last year." Advertisement

In additional to a comparative cost estimate, officials said on Thursday that December's bill would include a 25 percent usage fee.

The city explained in a Facebook post that the 25 percent increase was not a new fee but a way to catch up on months of missed payments.

On Friday night, however, the city said it is removing the 25 percent usage adjustment from residents' upcoming bills.
