For months, President Donald Trump has lobbed insults and threats at Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani. In many cases, Mamdani has returned them in force.

On Friday, for the first time, the two will meet face-to-face .

“My team reached out to the White House to set up this meeting because I will work with anyone to make life more affordable for the more than eight and a half million people who call this city home,” Mamdani told reporters Thursday.

Mamdani has long made clear he was willing to talk to Trump about lowering the cost of living, an issue he says got both of them elected.

He also said he’ll raise issues of public safety, a thornier topic given White House threats of sending federal troops and more U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers to the city.
