Council chiefs have been called upon to reassess an experimental ban on overnight motorhome parking in Scarborough, Whitby , and Cayton after thousands of complaints were lodged. An Experimental Traffic Regulation Order (ETRO) was put into effect along the North Yorkshire Coast last November due to an "unacceptable level" of overnight motorhome parking.
However, local councillors have reported that more than 2,000 complaints have since been filed by residents due to a "displacement effect". Speaking at a full meeting of North Yorkshire Council, Councillor Rich Maw stated: "Campervans are now parking directly outside homes overnight, discharging grey water into verges, using public taps, hanging washing on hedges, and in some cases causing noise and intimidation.
