According to a World Health Organization (WHO) report, about 30% of women in India have experienced intimate partner violence, which includes mental, economic and sexual abuse by their husband or partner.
The report states that one in every five women aged 15 to 49 has been a victim of such violence. Globally, around 840 million women have faced some form of sexual abuse from a partner at least once in their lifetime.
Since the year 2000, this figure has barely changed.
When it comes to non-partner sexual violence, 8.4% of women aged 15–49 worldwide have faced sexual assault by someone who was not their partner.
