UPMC is bringing medical rescue helicopter service to rural northcentral Pennsylvania.
UPMC and its Center for Emergency Medicine of Western Pennsylvania established a STAT MedEvac critical care transport base at UPMC Muncy Hospital in Lycoming County. The helicopter will be stationed on the hospital campus.
“With strong EMS partners like Susquehanna Regional EMS and our Level II Trauma Center at UPMC Williamsport, the only missing piece has been a dedicated critical care helicopter — until now,” UPMC Williamsport Hospital President Patti Jackson Gehris said in a prepared statement.
Each STAT MedEvac helicopter is staffed with a pilot, flight nurse and paramedic, and it is equipped with advanced medical equipment to start critical care immediately after an accident or other life threate
