One of Pittsburgh’s most iconic waterfront properties is starting a new chapter after years of losing tenants following the pandemic.

Massachusetts-based WS Development on Friday acquired Station Square, the 650,000-square-foot office, retail and entertainment complex along the south bank of the Monongahela River.

The sale comes after Station Square lost three long-time tenants — the Hard Rock Cafe, Buca di Beppo and Joe’s Crab Shack — and faced a foreclosure action in the span of just six months last year.

Owner Brookfield Properties listed the complex for sale in August 2024 for the second time after first failing to secure a buyer.

“Station Square has long been one of Pittsburgh’s most distinctive places,” WS Development chairman and CEO Jeremy Sclar said in a statement on Friday.
