A man turned a routine bus ride into a frightening scene along East Market Street, York, after pulling a kitchen knife on fellow passengers, Springettsbury Township Police announced on Thursday, Nov. 20.
Angel Velez, 63, of York, was charged after the confrontation on a Rabbit Transit bus near East Market Street and Northern Way around 11 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 24, according to the release.
Police said Velez turned around during a conversation among three passengers about jobs and criminal background checks. He began arguing with them and demanding to know if they were talking about him, witnesses told officers.
Velez then pulled out a silver kitchen knife and pointed it at the passengers, threatening to stab them to death once they got off the bus, investigators wrote in court documents. The victims told police they believed Velez thought they were discussing him.
One woman said she grabbed a car jack from the side of the bus because she feared she would be stabbed, according to the release.
Investigators said Velez admitted to having the knife and pulling it on the passengers.
Velez was charged with Misdemeanor Terroristic Threats, Misdemeanor Simple Assault, and Summary Disorderly Conduct.
