WAVERLY, Neb. (KOLN) - The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office (LSO) has identified the driver who was killed after a crash east of Waverly Thursday.
LSO identified the driver Friday as 86-year-old Fernando Ortiz of Waverly. He died at the scene of the crash.
Waverly Fire and Rescue was called to N. 162nd Street and Bluff Road at 9:14 a.m. Thursday.
Capt. John Vik with LSO said the driver of a southbound Lancaster County Engineering Department dump truck hit a westbound red vehicle in the intersection. The collision pushed the red vehicle through the intersection and into the ditch.
The dump truck driver failed to stop at a stop sign because of fog in the area, LSO said Friday.
