DETROIT -- Alex DeBrincat wants to represent the United States at the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026. The Detroit Red Wings forward has a strong case.
At the same time, he's one of what U.S. general manager Bill Guerin has called "good problems to have."
"Obviously I believe in myself," DeBrincat said this week. "I believe I should be on that team. I feel good right now. With that being said, there's a lot of good players. I'm sure they have some hard, tough choices."
The United States hasn't won an Olympic gold medal in men's hockey since 1980 or a best-on-best tournament since the 1996 World Cup of Hockey.
Twice with NHL players the U.S. has lost a best-on-best final to Canada in overtime, at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics and the 4 Nations Face-Off last season.
