(The Hill) -- The U.S. Coast Guard on Thursday released a new policy on hateful symbols such as swastikas and nooses after a Washington Post report said the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) will classify such symbols as "potentially divisive."
The policy "doubles down on its current policies" on banning the display or use of hate symbols by personnel, the Coast Guard (USCG) said in a statement. It also provides "clear definitions, guidance and expectations" for personnel.
The Post reported that the Coast Guard would reclassify swastikas, the primary symbol of the German Nazi Party and linked to the killing of several million European Jews during the Holocaust, along with nooses and the Confederate battle flag, which is often associated with the lynching of Black Americans and slaver
