Non-contact injuries are all-too-common in the NFL, but on “Thursday Night Football” this week, it was an official who fell victim to one.
NFL referee Adrian Hill suffered an injury away from play in the third quarter of the Bills-Texans game. He came up limping and was helped off the field before he was carted off. He was taken into the tunnel of NRG Stadium.
With Hill out, umpire Roy Ellison took over as referee for the remainder of the game.
Hill has been an NFL official since the 2010 season, and an NFL referee since 2019.
Hill is also a rocket scientist , with a master’s degree from Johns Hopkins. In 2006, the Baltimore chapter of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics named him Engineer of the Year.
