Pras Michel, a founding member of the 1990s hip-hop group the Fugees, has been sentenced to 14 years in prison after being convicted of his role in a major international scandal involving illegal political donations.

The 52-year-old rapper was found guilty of money laundering and violating campaign finance laws in connection with a large-scale scheme to funnel foreign money into US elections.

Michel’s conviction stems from his involvement in a conspiracy led by Malaysian financier Low Taek Jho, also known as Jho Low, who is accused of embezzling billions of dollars from a Malaysian state investment fund, 1MDB.
