Human remains were found in woodland on the outskirts of St. Cloud that authorities say is often used by people experiencing homelessness.
The Benton County Sheriff's Office says it was called to the 1500 block of East St. Germain Street in Minden Township after the remains were discovered around 9:15 p.m. Wednesday.
The sheriff's office said that the wooded area near where the remains were found "is regularly used as an encampment area by homeless individuals."
"Evidence found at the scene indicated the remains had been at this location for a substantial period of time. It is not believed there is any threat to the public at this time," it added.
A search warrant was obtained to search the property, with the remains collected and taken to the Midwest Medical Examiner's Office.
