INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, Fla. – An Indian River County sheriff’s deputy was killed and several others were injured Friday while trying to serve an eviction notice at a home near Vero Beach, according to multiple reports by news stations in the area.

The shooting happened at the Bermuda Club along State Road A1A, north of Vero Beach, near Wabasso Beach Park.

A reporter with WPTV said Vero Beach Mayor John Cotungno confirmed that one of the deputies died.

The conditions of the other deputies, who were taken to a hospital in Fort Pierce, are not known.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis said the Florida Department of Law Enforcement was working with local agencies and he was monitoring the situation.
