One Florida deputy was killed and several others were injured Friday in a shooting incident at an upscale gated community, officials told local media .

The gunfire erupted just north of Vero Beach at the Bermuda Club , Vero Beach Mayor John Cotugno told local NBC affiliate WPTV .

The injured deputies were taken to HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital in nearby Fort Pierce with police escort, Cotugno said .

Their conditions were not divulged.

Indian River County Sheriff Eric Flowers is scheduled to hold a news conference at noon where more details about the unfolding situation, including the name of the slain deputy, could be revealed.
