WASHINGTON, D.C. – Sen. John Curtis (R-UT) has introduced bipartisan legislation into the 119 th Congress to reaffirm and codify the U.S. relationship to Taiwan.
The Six Assurances to Taiwan Act would reemphasize key foreign policy commitments to the Asian nation, reinforce congressional oversight and prevent any unilateral change in American’s longstanding position regarding Taiwan without legislative review.
“These six assurances have been a cornerstone of U.S.-Taiwan policy since President Ronald Reagan first outlined them in 1982,” according to Curtis. “My bill simply codifies these longstanding commitments, so they carry the full weight of law.”
