A safety alert was issued at Temple University after two sexual assaults were reported both on and off campus, officials announced on Thursday, Nov. 20.
Temple University said it received two credible reports from different sources alleging sexual assault, according to the announcement. One incident happened during a social event inside a residence hall, and the second occurred off campus, officials said.
Both alleged assaults may involve the same student, who was identified on Wednesday, Nov. 19, according to Temple. That student was placed on interim suspension, resulting in a ban from campus, university buildings, and classes while investigations continue by the university, the Temple Department of Public Safety, and the Philadelphia Police Department, the school said.
Temple urged anyone with information or in need of support related to sexual misconduct to contact Temple Police at 215-204-1234, the Title IX Coordinator at 215-204-3283, or the Dean of Students Office at 215-204-7188, officials said. Anonymous reports can also be submitted at helpline.temple.edu, according to the university.
The announcement restated Temple’s consent guidance, emphasizing that consent must be clear, voluntary, informed, and explicitly communicated. A person who is asleep, unconscious, or significantly impaired by drugs or alcohol cannot give consent, the release said.
Students were encouraged to look out for one another while socializing and to use Temple’s medical amnesty policy, which protects students seeking medical help for the effects of drugs or alcohol, according to the announcement.
Walking escorts remain available within Temple’s patrol zone by calling 215-777-9255, officials added.
Anyone in need of support can contact Tuttleman Counseling Services at 215-204-7276, the university said.
