A 19-year-old girl has sadly lost her life following an industrial accident at work in Cambridgeshire. Žavinta Petrašiūtė died at Pretoria Energy Mepal, located near Chatteris, earlier this week. Cambridgeshire Police received a call regarding the incident at 3pm on Monday. A spokesperson for the police confirmed that investigations are currently underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the accident. In a heartfelt message shared on Facebook, Petrašiūtė's father expressed his gratitude for the support received during this devastating time. He wrote, "We want to express our deepest gratitude to each and every one of you. During this incredibly painful time of losing our daughter, we never expected to receive so much kindness, unity, and warmth from so many people." In light of the tragedy, a fundraiser has been established to assist Petrašiūtė's family with the costs of repatriating her body to Lithuania. Ernestas Mag, who initiated the fundraising page, stated, "Alan and Ieva have faced an unimaginable tragedy. Their beloved daughter, Žavinta Petrašiūtė, tragically lost her life yesterday in a workplace accident at Pretoria Energy in Mepal, Chatteris. The circumstances of the incident are currently under investigation." The GoFundMe page describes Petrašiūtė as a "bright, hardworking and kind young woman", who was "loved and appreciated by everyone who knew her". It further highlights the family's wish to bring her back home to Lithuania for burial, stating, "The family’s only wish now is to bring Žavinta back home to Lithuania, so she can be laid to rest in her homeland, close to her family and loved ones. However, the costs of repatriation from the United Kingdom and the funeral expenses are extremely high." The community continues to rally around the family during this difficult time, as they seek to honour the memory of a young life tragically cut short.
