Matalan has issued an urgent recall of two of its popular soft toys, the Squishy Dino Egg and Squishy Unicorn Egg, due to serious health risks. The toys, which are moulded eggs available in various colours, contain an aqueous solution, beads, and a plastic dinosaur or unicorn inside.

The Office for Product Safety and Standards has raised alarms, stating that these toys "present a serious microbiological and choking risk." The toys can easily burst, releasing small parts and the aqueous solution, which poses a danger to children.

The recall notice highlighted that the solution was found to contain an excess of aerobic microbials. It warned, "If the user inhales or handles the solution, they could come into contact with these microbials. This may cause adverse health effects for certain consumers, such as those who are immunocompromised."

Furthermore, the toys have been recalled for failing to meet the requirements of the Toys (Safety) Regulations 2011. Consumers are advised to stop using the toys immediately and return them to the store for a full refund.

This recall underscores the importance of safety in children's products, and Matalan is taking steps to ensure that such risks are addressed promptly. The situation is developing, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
