Defence Secretary John Healey has admitted that he did not pay enough tax on his second home in central London , The Telegraph has reported.
John Healey cited an “administrative error” by the council as to the reason he underpaid close to £1,500 in tax on his flat in Westminster .
The local authority has apologised for the error.
After a new second-home council tax surcharge took effect in April, the Cabinet minister should have been paying £2,938 a year to Westminster City Council for his flat, which is believed to have been used for work.
However, The Telegraph discovered he had been paying only half that amount for the current tax year.
He corrected the underpayment on Thursday, but only after the newspaper contacted him.
