No. 6 Gila Ridge (10-1) hosted its first-ever home playoff game this past Friday, handily beating No. 22 Estrella Foothills at Veterans Memorial Stadium in front of its home crowd by a score of 42-14.
The Hawks now turn their attention to No. 14 Coconino (8-4), who upset No. 3 Bradshaw Mountain in Prescott this past Friday to earn a trip to the quarterfinals, playing right into the hands of Gila Ridge, who will host the Panthers as the superior seed.
“Our guys were stoked when we heard Coconino had beaten Bradshaw at the end of the game,” Gila Ridge head coach Jessica Slaughter said. “We were excited to get another home game, but also because we didn’t have to travel. Overall, it’s been cool to see the support of our community and everyone in the stands last week.”
