During next week’s meeting of the community and emergency services committee, proponents from the community drug strategy will provide an update on drug poisoning deaths and the local action plan.

The numbers are trending in the right direction, according to statistics from Public Health Sudbury and Districts, but there is a need to evolve care and intervention, as new drugs take hold in the community.

From January to September, there were 89 suspected drug poisonings in the Sudbury and Manitoulin districts. That is down from last year, when 108 people died during the same period.

According to a report ( tinyurl.com/yrbmbfhu ) to be presented to the committee, staff indicate there were 106 drug poisoning deaths in 2024.
