WADE, Maine — The Office of State Fire Marshal and Maine State Police are investigating after two people were found dead Tuesday inside an Aroostook County home after suspected carbon monoxide poisoning.
Troopers and EMS personnel responded to 505 North Wade Road around 11:15 a.m. for a welfare check, according to a news release from the Maine Department of Public Safety. Both people inside the home were confirmed dead when first responders arrived.
Fire marshal's office investigators determined that the home's furnace exhaust pipe had been improperly installed and had become disconnected, causing exhaust fumes to vent directly into the residence, the release stated.
The two people likely died from carbon monoxide exposure, according to the release.
