READING, Vt. (WCAX) - A Reading family is settling into their newly modified home thanks to a White River Junction organization that helps families afford necessary home improvements.
Seven-year-old Astraea Pierce and her mom, Harlei, have faced significant challenges since Astraea was diagnosed with a brain tumor in January, just months after moving into their new home. Astraea has a rare genetic mutation and cannot walk or talk.
“We knew the bathroom situation was tough. It had like a really old tub in there. I mean, the doorways are kind of narrow. We knew we would need ramps,” Harlei Pierce said.
