TRENTON — Gov. Phil Murphy issued a writ of election on Friday to fill the vacancy in the U.S. House of Representatives for New Jersey’s 11th Congressional District.
Governor-elect Mikie Sherrill resigned from office, effective 11:59 p.m. on Thursday.
The 11th Congressional District includes parts of Essex, Morris, and Passaic counties.
Murphy directed a special primary election to be held on Feb. 5, 2026, and a special general election held on April 16, 2026.
There will be six days of in-person voting for the special primary election, from January 29 through Feb. 3, 2026. Before the special general election, there will be nine days of in-person early voting, from April 6 through April 14, 2026.
