TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) - A Tucson man will spend more than a decade in prison for fraud-related charges.
49-year-old Kevin Lamorris McKenzie received 14 years in prison after pleading guilty to conspiracy to commit wire fraud and embezzlement from an Indian Tribal Organization.
That sentence will be served concurrently with an additional 5-year prison sentence.
The Justice Department says McKenzie engaged in scheme as an official of Apache Behavioral Health Services (ABHS) to defraud millions of dollars from ABHS and the White Mountain Apache Tribe.
McKenzie used two contracts as a front to funnel money from ABHS to himself.
Under the first contract, ABHS paid over $35 million to Helping Everyday Youth (HEDY).
Based on a secret agreement with McKenzie, HEDY funneled approximately $1
