ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — A Cherokee County man has been convicted of raping and molesting a child, according to the district attorney.
The district attorney said Michael Clay Downey, 40, was convicted of raping and molesting a child under the age of 12 in a home in Canton. According to the district attorney, the investigation into Downey’s actions began in September 2024.
The victim knew Downey, the district attorney said.
Downey was convicted of two counts of rape, two counts of incest, three counts of aggravated sexual battery, and two counts of child molestation. He will be sentenced at a later date.
