WATERLOO, Iowa (KCRG) - The Rath Packing Company’s administration building in Waterloo has sat empty for 40 years on Sycamore Street in the Northeast industrial park.

But now, the building is being repurposed into an 87-unit apartment complex.

The city said repurposing the building has been a priority for the city for a long time.

But it couldn’t start the project until it found the right developer.

“I’ve probably been in the building well over 50 times. So, I’ve shown it to a lot of people. So, getting this project done is something that’s very exciting,” Tim Andera, an economic development specialist with the City of Waterloo said. “It’s definitely a positive for the community and that neighborhood,” he said.

The $25 million project will see the building turn into a 87-unit apartmen
