However, when they’re disposed of the wrong way, it can cause a serious fire hazard, which is why it’s important always to realize what’s in your devices and how to recycle them properly.
The primary drop-off site for items containing lithium batteries is the Household Hazardous Waste Facility, and you can also go to the Battery Exchange and SEAM, which specializes in data destruction and electronics recycling.
