NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — Some Virginia residents receiving TANF benefits report mistakenly getting hundreds of dollars into their accounts one week before Thanksgiving, but then having the amounts reversed within hours.

For Newport News resident Latesha Holloman, it meant more than $900 into her account that then disappeared eight hours later.

“Not going to say devastated, but sad. Once I saw that money, I thought [about] what I could use that money for, paying down some debt. Christmas for my kids. When it was taken away, it felt like a cruel joke. Like, you’re dangling something in front of me and then you take it away," she said.

Several TANF recipients confirmed the deposits with 13News Now.

"I wonder if it really was a glitch or human error," wrote one recipient.
