CLARENDON COUNTY, S.C. — A man accused of leading law enforcement on a multi-county interstate chase that ended with a plunge into Lake Marion on Friday has been arrested.
Dorchester County Sheriff's Office spokesperson Steven Wright said the incident began around 10 a.m. when deputies spotted the suspect, 43-year-old Christopher James Lynch, who they said was wanted on warrants for violent crimes.
Wright said deputies attempted to stop Lynch, but he drove away, leading to a pursuit that passed through portions of Orangeburg and Clarendon counties. The pursuit ended on I-95 near mile marker 104 atop the interstate bridge spanning Lake Marion when Lynch reportedly crashed into a tractor-trailer that was attempting to move out of the way.
