CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - The end of 2025 will mark the end of a 33-year career for Johnny Jennings, police chief of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department. Jennings joined the department as a patrol officer in 1992 and worked his way up through the ranks of the agency.
“I’ve seen so many changes. I’ve seen so many people come and go,” said Jennings in an interview with WBTV.
Jennings has withstood the test of time at the department. He served under several leaders before becoming chief of police in 2020. He said becoming the leader of the department was not one of his original goals.
“I was never even thinking that way. My goal when I joined the police department, I said if I could make it to be a captain one day, that would be great,” said Jennings.
