A 63-year-old man was killed and another person was injured in a hit-and-run Friday evening on Chef Menteur Highway, New Orleans police said.

Seventh District officers responded to the accident in the 6300 block of Chef Menteur at around 5:55 p.m. New Orleans EMS pronounced the 63-year-old man dead at the scene. The second victim was taken to a hospital. NOPD did not release that person's current condition.

Police believe the vehicle that fled is a tan hatchback with damage to its left side and front.

The investigation is ongoing. The New Orleans coroner will release the decedent's identity when family is notified.
