WASHINGTON, D.C. — Social Security Commissioner Frank J. Bisignano outlined upgrades to the nation’s largest benefits program Friday, detailing for Congress how the agency reshaped customer service, expanded digital access and trimmed long-standing backlogs during his first months on the job, according to Bisignano’s letter to Congress .
The update, sent at the close of Fiscal Year 2025, offers a look inside an agency that touches nearly every American household and distributes $1.6 trillion in payments each year.
In the letter, Bisignano praised the tens of thousands of Social Security employees who continued serving the public throughout this year’s government shutdown. He also noted the program’s 90th anniversary.
