LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A former Scott County, Indiana, sheriff changed his plea Friday to guilty on a tax evasion charge for allegedly taking more than $140,000 from his ailing godmother and not reporting it as income.
Kenneth Hughbanks is expected to receive two and a half years of probation and pay $13,200 in restitution.
He and his attorney filed a motion Friday to set a change-of-plea and sentencing hearing. A pretrial conference is scheduled for Dec. 18.
The charges are unrelated to his long-time association with former sheriff Jamey Noel.
Hughbanks has a long history in law enforcement, including working for the Clark County Sheriff’s Office and briefly serving as Scott County sheriff in 2018, filling a vacancy when the previous sheriff left to become a U.S. marshal.
