KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — American Medical Response started leading its effort to provide essential medical services in a section of Broadway known as the "Mission District" more than a year ago.

Wesley Brookshear serves as the field training supervisor of East Tennessee and is a critical care paramedic. He said every Tuesday, AMR and other organizations, including the Knoxville Fire and Health Departments, make rounds in the area.

Brookshear said the main focuses for AMR are providing emergent or extreme wound care and building trust in the community.

"Building that relationship with that community has been one of the pinnacles of my career," he said. "I love being down there. A lot of my team members from the AMR side and the GMR side we've experienced homelessness at some point in our lives
