ASHEVILLE - Deputy Chief Jacquelyn "Jackie" Stepp will be stepping in as the Asheville Police Department's newest interim police chief, effective Nov. 21.

City Manager Debra Campbell announced Stepp's appointment on Nov. 21. Stepp has served with the police department for 20 years, starting as a patrol officer in 2005, the Citizen Times previously reported. Since then, she has risen through the ranks to be named the department's first female deputy chief in October 2023, overseeing the Administrative Bureau.
