PONCA, Neb. (KTIV) - Leukemia is the most common cancer in children in the United States.
One 7-year-old girl from Ponca, Nebraska, is sharing her story battling that cancer.
“She’s just a ball of energy. Spitfire is really my, I’d say, the best way we’d describe her. Has a laugh that’s contagious. Even when, like I said, when she doesn’t feel good, most of the time you wouldn’t know it,” said Samantha Bennett.
After three days of leg pain and a fever, Kinsley Bennett was diagnosed with B-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia on Oct. 16, 2023, at the age of five.
It’s an aggressive type of leukemia in which too many immature white blood cells are found in the bone marrow and blood.
Her white blood cell count was at 47,000; a normal amount is between 4,000 to 7,000.
