Eddie Murphy is set to receive one of Hollywood’s most prestigious honours. The American Film Institute has announced that the actor-comedian will be awarded its Life Achievement Award in 2025, with the ceremony scheduled for April 2026 at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.

The honour recognises Murphy’s remarkable influence across film, television and stand-up comedy – a career that began in his teens and has shaped generations of entertainers.

Calling him “an American icon,” AFI Board of Trustees chair Kathleen Kennedy praised Murphy as “a trailblazing force in the art forms of film, television and stand-up comedy.” Over a career spanning more than four decades, Murphy has delivered some of comedy and cinema’s most memorable characters.
