INDIANAPOLIS — Thanksgiving is less than a week away and as Hoosiers preparing for the big day, some may need a little help putting food on the table.
With grocery prices still climbing, churches and other organizations say it’s more important than ever to to reach out to help neighbors.
“Turkeys are like 94 cents a pound, so you want to get at least 12 pounds, so y’all do the math, people,” said Marva Hartwell Satterfield, an organizer of a meal giveaway Friday at New Day Pentecostal Church .
The church, located in Haughville, is celebrating eight years of handing out Thanksgiving baskets, a tradition organizers say they have no plans to slow down.
“We do this to help our community, to show love and express how we feel about us as a people,” Satterfield said.
