WEST OAHU (Island News) -- After years of community outcry, city, state and federal leaders are cracking down on crime in West Oahu. They're bringing a program that's had success in other areas to a community desperate for help.
Pastor Allen Cardinas Jr. is tired of seeing empty seats at family gatherings.
"A lot of families will have empty chairs at the tables, empty chairs this Thanksgiving and this Christmas because of the violence, the shootings and the tragedies," he said.
That's why city, state and federal leaders are joining forces to combat crime through prevention and treatment programs in West Oahu -- working in schools to steer keiki away from violence, putting programs in place at city parks that inspire a sense of community and enforcing stiffer penalties on habitual crimin
