A cyclone may form over the Bay of Bengal next week, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting the development of a low-pressure area over the South Andaman Sea on November 22 that could intensify into a depression by November 24.

The system stems from an upper-air cyclonic circulation persisting over the central parts of the Strait of Malacca, extending up to 5.8 km above mean sea level.

In its Tropical Weather Outlook issued on Friday, the IMD said the potential system is likely to move west-northwestwards and strengthen further over the southwest Bay of Bengal during the following 48 hours.
